Where's Molly by H.D. Carlton Summary
Where’s Molly by H.D. Carlton This book has been one of the most avoided ones, but it's finally time to talk about it. If you’ve read Hunting Adeline, you may remember Molly—she was first introduced as part of that cat-and-mouse story.
In the second book, her story is briefly touched upon, leaving readers wondering: Where is Molly? What happened to her? How did she escape? This book answers all those questions.
Molly’s life has been traumatic and abusive since childhood. Her first abuse came from her own father. Molly's parents were drug addicts who didn’t work. Instead, Molly was the one earning for the family. Her income was used by her parents to buy drugs. She also had a baby sister, whom she deeply loved and cared for.
Tragically, Molly’s father sold her for money. She was taken away, where she was raped and tortured—both mentally and physically. After enduring this for eight months, Molly managed to escape. Her motivation was her baby sister, and somehow, she made it back home. However, Molly hadn’t realized until then that her parents were capable of doing the same thing to her little sister. They could go to any length for money.
Molly had actually thought of escaping with her sister before. But her father had blackmailed her with a video of Molly buying drugs for her parents. He threatened to take it to the police if she tried to run. Fearing this, Molly stayed silent for a long time.
But once she returned, she was determined to take her sister and flee. Her father caught her in the act and again threatened to call "them" and expose her. At that moment, Molly snapped. She killed her father, cut him into pieces, and disposed of the body at a pig farm. She then took her sister and ran far away.
Knowing she had no resources, Molly decided to leave her sister with a safe, loving family. She thoroughly investigated them beforehand, ensuring they would provide a better life. Once she was confident, she left her sister at their doorstep and began her journey alone. From there, Molly had to start her life from zero.
She hid her identity because news about her was all over the media. To protect herself, she couldn’t reveal who she really was, which meant she couldn’t get a decent job. At times, she even worked in black markets where she faced abuse again. Eventually, she ran away from those situations too.
One day, she received a call from a man offering her a better life if she went to the address he provided. Molly, being smart, refused—she knew nothing came for free, and everything had a price. But when the man called again, he promised she wouldn’t have to endure any more abuse and could genuinely start over. She took a chance.
To her surprise, the offer turned out to be real. Molly finally got the opportunity to rebuild. A man came into her life who helped her heal, giving her strength and showing her that love could exist even after all the darkness she’d been through. At first, Molly was confused and hesitant. But over time, she accepted him. He truly loved and supported her, standing by her in every dark moment.
They became very close and dependent on each other, and eventually, they found happiness. The book ends there—with Molly finally receiving the love and safety she had always longed for.
This book is incredibly emotional and sad. Molly's story is filled with pain and trauma from the beginning. All she ever wanted was love—something everyone deserves—and in the end, she finally gets it. I’m genuinely happy for Molly, though the journey was harrowing. If you want to truly understand what Molly went through, this book is worth reading. Otherwise, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking beyond her backstory.
