What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher Book Review

What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher Book Review Edgar Allan Poe's Fall of the House of Usher .” So that's what book number one is, and that's what kind of drew me into this particular series. I have that one. I've also read the second one, which is What Feasts at Night . So this is the third one, What Stalks the Deep , and I will tell you right off the bat that it's good, but I had a couple of issues with it, which I will explain in a bit. So, let's read the summary. The next installment in the New York Times bestselling Sworn Soldier series features Alex Eastston investigating the dark, mysterious steps of a coal mine in America. Alex Eastston does not want to visit America. They particularly do not want to visit an abandoned coal mine in West Virginia with a reputation for being haunted.  But when their old friend, Dr. Denton, summons them to help find his lost cousin who went missing in that very mine, well, sometimes a sworn soldier has to do what a swor...

Bones by K L Speer Book Review

Bones by K L Speer Book Review  Bones by KL Spear and it is Bones number one. Now, according to Goodreads, it has a fairly high rating and I am sorry to say, but my rating is not going to be that high. I probably give this a three to a three and a half stars. And I will talk to you guys about why. I almost never come on here and talk about a book that I didn't enjoy, but this one has a lot of things about it, and it has an audience that seems to have really enjoyed it. There were just a lot of things going on that we can talk about once I get the summary done. So, let's dive into that and we'll go from there. Bones was born with a miraculous power to heal. But all her gift has brought is death. As a child, her older brother trained her to survive, and so survive she did. The blood on her hands will never wash off. She is broken and scarred in more ways than one, but she survived. After finally escaping the ruthless raiders who imprisoned her for 12 long years, Bones is h...

Relentless by Tim S. Grover Book Review

Relentless by Tim S. Grover Book Review Friends, do you also feel like you can do more? Or have you ever felt like there's something more within you? You know you're not average, but you haven't yet reached your full potential. You feel like you have an energy, a fire within you, but the world doesn't understand it. Tim Grover, who coached legends like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, says: "Some people stop when they are tired. The unstoppable ones stop when they are done." That is, some people stop when they are tired, but winners stop when the task is complete. This line is the essence of the entire book. Relentless isn't a "how to motivate yourself" book. It's a mirror that shows you your most honest, raw, and powerful version. Tim Grover says, "You already have what it takes to be unstoppable.  The question is—are you willing to work like it?" This book takes you on the journey from good to great and from great to unstoppable....

The Isle of Emberdark by Brandon Sanderson Book Review

The Isle of Emberdark by Brandon Sanderson Book Review The Aisle of Ember Dark by Brandon Sanderson  one of Brandon Sanderson’s most interesting reads. It feels both modern and somewhat dated, similar to Sixth of the Dusk , where Dusk is a trapper on an undeveloped island with strong country vibes. From number-one New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes this standalone novel that navigates the seas and stars of a far-future Cosmere, illustrated by Esther Hi’elilani Kendari. All his life, Six of the Dusk has been a traditional trapper of Aviar—the supernatural birds his people bond with—on the deadly island of Patchy. One night, he propels his people into a race to modernize before they can be conquered by the Ones Above, invaders from the stars who seek to exploit the Aviar. It’s a race they are losing, and Dusk fears his people will lose themselves while trying to survive. When a chance arises to sail into the expanse of the Ember Dark—beyond a mystical...

Livingston Girls by Briana Morgan Book Review

Livingston Girls by Briana Morgan Book Review Livingston Girls by Brianna Morgan. This book was a little predictable, but overall, it was pretty good. It’s YA, so I give it some grace — it’s not super intense, but it’s entertaining.  I’d rate it about 3.75, rounding up to four stars. It’s enjoyable, though not perfect, and I would read more by this author. The story follows sixteen-year-old Rose Abbott, who is sent to Livingston Academy, a strict all-girls boarding school, after having an affair with a teacher. Ashamed and isolated, Rose wants to keep her head down, pass her classes, and make friends.  The last thing on her mind is becoming a witch — until the mysterious headmistress offers her the chance to join a secret coven. Desperate for belonging, Rose accepts, but soon discovers the other witches don’t want her there, as she’s replacing their deceased friend.  The coven must learn to work together, though, because the witch-hunting headmaster of the nearby ...

America's Most Gothic: Haunted History by Andrea Janes and Leanne Hieber Book Review

America's Most Gothic: Haunted History by Andrea Janes and Leanne Hieber Book Review  America's Most Gothic: Haunted History Stranger Than Fiction by Leanna Renee Hieber and Andrea James. For this particular book, I’m not sure what I thought I was getting. I actually thought I had already reviewed it, but when I looked back through my videos, it wasn’t there. Since my written review is on Goodreads, I figured I’d go ahead and record this again. The Gothic—brooding, atmospheric, chilling—is not always the outpouring of feverish imagination. Reality can be even stranger, as seen in this ghostly look at real people who lived and died amidst the trappings of the Gothic: fog clinging to isolated mansions, dangerous patriarchs, overbearing matrons, locked doors, forbidden rooms, and whispers of murder and madness. This book explores real-life stories that feel like Gothic fiction. It includes tales like teenage Mercy Brown, victim of Rhode Island’s vampire hysteria of the 1890s; ...

Book Review of the Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi

Book Review of the Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi Today’s book is The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Phillip Forassie. It is expected to be published on September 30th, 2025 . This book was wild — a true horror slasher. If that genre is triggering for you, be aware that some of the murders in this story are quite gruesome, especially considering they take place in a retirement home. Brimming with dark humor, violence, and mystery , The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre is a blood-soaked slasher sure to keep readers cringing, laughing, and guessing until the very last page. Rose Dubois is not your average final girl.  She’s in her late 70s, living out her golden years at the Autumn Springs Retirement Home. When one of her friends dies alone in her apartment, Rose isn’t too concerned at first — accidents happen at that age. But when more residents start dropping dead, Rose begins to wonder: are these really accidents, or somethin...

Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree Book Review

Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree Book Review  It is Briggins and Bread Knives by Travis Baldry, and it is Legends and Lattes number two. You're like, “Wait, Rachel, there are two books out already.” True, but one is kind of the prequel, so that one would be 0.5, then there's Legends and Lattes , and now Briggins and Bread Knives .  It was fantastic to dive back into this world because we get to talk about all the people we've talked about already, but we also get to move forward with a brand new story and see what's happening in the world this time. It is approximately 336 pages in hardcover. I had the audiobook as well as the ebook, and the audiobook was incredibly well done. Travis Baldry, the author, narrates it, so he is able to insert all the inflections he intended when he wrote it. Kudos to him for being so multi-talented. The expected publication is November 11th, 2025. Now let us dive into the summary. Return to the cozy world of the number one ...

Book Review of Hazelthorn by C G Drews

Book Review of Hazelthorn by C G Drews Hazelthornne by C. G. Drews is described as perfect for fans of Andrew Joseph White, known for gritty, raw writing with eerie undertones. The story follows Evander, who has lived like a ghost in the forgotten corners of Hazelthornne estate ever since he was taken in by a reclusive billionaire guardian, Byron Lennox Hall, when he was a child.  For his safety, Evander has three strict rules: he can never leave the estate, he can never go into the gardens, and he can never be left alone with Byron’s charming but underachieving grandson, Lorie. That rule has been in place ever since Lorie tried to kill Evander seven years ago, yet Evander remains obsessed with him. When Byron suddenly dies, Evander inherits the Gothic mansion, the acres of grounds, and the Lennox Hall family fortune. Evander is convinced his guardian was murdered, and Lorie may be the only one who can help him find the killer before they come for him next.  Meanwhile, ...
