Death’s Obsession by Avina St. Graves Summary
Death’s Obsession by Avina st. Graves This book explores a chilling idea: what if a soul becomes obsessed with you, follows you everywhere, and refuses to leave? Scary, right? Let’s dive into the story and see what happens.
The story revolves around Lalit, who begins experiencing strange and unsettling things. She can see someone—something—that no one else can. After a tragic accident in which Lalit loses her sister, she is hospitalized. While recovering, she starts receiving flowers, gifts, and letters. At first, she thinks they’re from her boyfriend, but when she asks him, he has no idea what she’s talking about.
This deepens Lalit’s confusion. She visits a doctor, who tells her that she’s suffering from hallucinations, a side effect of the trauma from the accident. But even after this diagnosis, the mysterious gifts keep coming. The doctor claims Lalit is buying everything herself and imagining they’re from someone else, but she knows that isn’t true. She truly sees someone—though no one else can—and it terrifies her.
Thinking it might be a spirit or ghost, Lalit tries to protect herself. She uses safety pins and herbs for spiritual protection, but the spirit responds by returning everything to her doorstep—along with a note saying, “Try again.” This leaves Lalit shocked and frightened. Although she couldn’t see the spirit’s face, they communicated regularly. Every time Lalit asked to see his face, he replied, “You’re still asleep. When you wake up, you’ll be able to see me.”
Curious and desperate for answers, Lalit asks who he is. The spirit tells her that when someone dies, certain souls come to collect those who believe in the afterlife—heaven and hell. It’s an eerie concept, and Lalit is stunned.
Meanwhile, her real life is falling apart. Her financial situation is terrible, and her boyfriend is emotionally abusive—only with her for money. He takes whatever she earns and criticizes her for every small expense. When Lalit discovers he’s been cheating on her, she wants to break up. The spirit, enraged, tortures her boyfriend and ultimately kills him. Only then does Lalit see the spirit clearly.
From this point, their bond grows deeper. The spirit begins fulfilling all her emotional and physical needs. Despite the strangeness of it, Lalit starts developing feelings for him. Their relationship turns intimate—though how that happens between a human and a spirit is unclear. Eventually, Lalit becomes obsessed with him too. She receives marks and even a tattoo from the spirit. He also gives her a pendant, further proving to Lalit that this isn’t a dream—everything is real.
Lalit begins hiding all of this from others. She even communicates with the spirit through her phone—they chat, talk, and grow closer. The spirit is deeply in love with her and obsessed in a way that feels protective rather than dangerous. Lalit tells him she wants to go wherever he is, and he finally takes her with him. They begin living together—and the book ends there.
Now, about the book itself—Death’s Obsession is definitely fiction, and the storyline is quite unconventional. A human getting emotionally and physically intimate with a spirit? It was hard for me to process that part. The concept is strange, and although it’s fiction and anything can happen, the story felt more sensational than substantial.
Personally, I don’t highly recommend this book. The plot is minimal, and it leans heavily into the supernatural-romance-spice angle. The idea of a spirit helping someone financially, sending gifts and letters, and forming a romantic relationship with a human just didn’t work for me. It was difficult to digest, and honestly—I’m still processing it.
