THE SIREN by Tiffany Reisz Book Review

TitleThe Siren

Rating: 5+ Stars

Beautifully written, heartbreaking, and incredibly sexy, The Siren by Tiffany Reisz held me completely captive and left me spent. On more than one occasion, I had to remind myself to breathe.

“The Siren is a modern-day retelling of My Fair Lady with uptight English literary fiction editor Zachary Easton as an unwilling Professor Higgins and well-known wild child Nora Sutherlin as his erotica-writing Eliza Doolittle. Zach only has six weeks left at Royal House New York before he heads to Los Angeles to take over as Chief Managing Editor at Royal West. When his boss orders him to help Nora Sutherlin rewrite her latest novel, Zach agrees to work with her only if he is given complete control over the fate of her book. If Nora doesn’t rewrite it to his satisfaction in six weeks, Royal won’t publish it.”

The Siren amazed me. The story is a book within a book, and told beautifully. It is dark, haunting, and utterly seductive. I loved the timing of the story, the way we are introduced to each character and begin to know them, without revealing too much before it is time. There is no rush to the storytelling. The reader is given time to get to know the characters, witness their pivotal moments, and feel their emotions. That being said, the story does not move too slowly. I was always eager to turn the pages and find out what happens next. Within the first few chapters I had laughed out loud, shed some tears, and fallen in love with the beautiful and arrestive Nora Sutherlin.

I loved unraveling the story of Nora and her men. Her staid british editor, Zach, the young, handsome, and virginal Wesley, and the mysterious and extremely dangerous Soren were each perfect compliments to the many sides of Nora. Because she was such a dynamic and complex character, it seemed to me she needed all three of them to balance her out. Wonderful characters in their own right, each man brings to the surface a different part of her, perhaps a possiblility of who she could become if she only would allow her self take that path.

At the very heart of the story is a journey to self discovery. Not just for Nora, but for her men as well. As she draws them in, they are forced to face demons past and present, while she battles her own monsters. Each character must decide who they really and what their own path will be. I hope that we get to see more of these characters in the future. I look forward to continuing on their journey of love, lust, sin, and redemption.

I gave this book five stars. I would give it more if I could.

With this series, Amish shifts from mythological fiction to historical fiction , aiming to bring alive the forgotten heroes of India’s past—warriors who fought against invaders and preserved Indian culture.
