Mrs Funnybones Returns by Twinkle Khanna PDF Download
Mrs Funnybones Returns by Twinkle Khanna. The cover of the book looked appealing and promised something “fashionable, fantastic, and funny.” Despite the popular saying not to judge a book by its cover, I expected a witty and humorous read. However, to my surprise, while reading the book, I did not laugh or giggle even once. I continued reading, page after page, and finished the book in about three hours.
The book is filled with sarcasm, and Twinkle Khanna is unapologetic about it. She appears to have an opinion about almost everything and everyone around her. Throughout the book, she refers to her son as the “prodigal son,” her husband Akshay Kumar as “the man of the house,” her daughter as a “little beast,” and the household staff as “domestic wonders.” She even describes her mother-in-law as fierce, formidable, and full of fury.
One of the reasons I continued reading the book was because of the words of appreciation printed on it by Karan Johar. He praises Twinkle Khanna for her brilliant observations, self-deprecating humour, and sharp commentary, calling her one of the best columnists and an intelligent critic. This endorsement encouraged me to give the book a fair chance.
There is a particular line on page 168 that I could relate to, where the author reacts strongly to being called “cute,” questioning the meaning of the word in a humorous yet irritated manner. In a few places, Twinkle Khanna also shares life lessons directed at her son, which are written beautifully and stand out positively.
The book is definitely an easy and quick read, taking only three to four hours to complete. One unique feature is its structure—the chapters are arranged alphabetically, from A to Z, which makes the format different and interesting.
Mrs Funnybones Returns was originally priced at ₹299. I had purchased it two years ago for ₹100. Currently, the English version is available on Amazon for ₹211, while the Hindi version is priced at ₹156 after discount, and the Gujarati version is available for ₹126. The book was published in 2015 and largely revolves around everyday incidents from Twinkle Khanna’s life.
Overall, I personally did not find much to appreciate in the book, which made me question whether I would want to read her other works, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad and Pajamas Are Forgiving. I would like to know from readers who have read these books whether they are worth trying.
