Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros Summary
The Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros Violet never wanted to become a dragon rider. Her father wanted her to become a scribe, and then her mother wanted her to become a dragon rider because her sister and her brother were also riders. They were very brave and had some unique powers, so her mother also wanted her to become a rider. She couldn’t say no to her mother, so she was admitted to college as a rider.
To become a rider, she had to enter the college, but before entering that college, there was a parapet which students had to cross. It was very risky—if you crossed it, you got to go to college. If you couldn’t cross it, you would die straight away. There was no way to back out from there. So before going, Meera gives some tips to her sister, Violet, and explains a lot about what to do and what not to do. She told her not to believe anyone after going there, not to trust anyone, and not to make friends with anyone.
Then there was a childhood friend of Violet’s, Dan, who was in that quadrant and in the second year. He was a squad leader. Meera suggested Violet contact him. There was another boy there—Jaden Rear Son. Meera clearly tells her to stay away from him and not to talk to him. He is very dangerous. If he comes to know who you are, he will kill you right there.
So Violet leaves for that parapet and meets a boy and a girl, and she makes friends with them. Then Violet goes a little further and sees another boy—it’s Jaden Rear Son. She directly asks him, “Do you want me to die?” Jaden replies, “Why should I make so much effort when the parapet will do my work?” She gets very scared. That place was very risky because 50% of students used to die there. There was no trace of them.
Violet becomes determined and somehow crosses the parapet. After crossing it, she meets Dan, who receives her. Dan tells her, “Why did you come here? You had to become a scribe. Why did you come to the riders?” She tells him everything. Then Dan takes her into his squad. Their squad was in the second wing, but everything was controlled by Rear Son—Jaden Rear Son. He was a wing leader, very powerful, and a senior. So, by manipulating things, he takes control of Dan’s squad.
Dan keeps telling Violet not to talk to Jaden and to stay away from him, but just by seeing him, Violet starts feeling something. He was so beautiful, so handsome. Violet starts getting attracted to him from the very beginning.
Then there are many exams, and Violet passes them. Many people thought she was weak and a very soft person, so they started underestimating her. Then there was another rule: dragons used to choose their riders themselves. Before that, her mentors were telling them about dragons. They told them the black dragon was the most powerful, and it hadn’t bonded with anyone for 5 years because its rider had died.
There was another dragon, Feather Tail, who also didn’t bond with anyone. During the exam where dragons choose their riders, some boys wanted to kill Feather Tail, who was just a baby dragon. Violet listens and goes to save him. She fights a lot but saves him. Jaden supports her.
After returning, they had to show which dragons had chosen them. When Violet goes, she shows her dragons. Two dragons had selected her—one was the black dragon, Tyran, and the other was the baby Feather Tail, named Endor. She was very cute. Everyone was shocked that two dragons had selected her.
In that wing and in the whole college, the people who didn’t like Violet and considered her weak now started befriending her. Another thing happens: Jaden’s dragon, named Sagal, and Violet’s dragon, Tyran, were mates. Sagal was a lady dragon, and Tyran was a gentleman. Because their dragons were mates, unfortunately, Violet and Jaden become mates too.
Another twist—if something happens to Jaden, Violet will be affected. And vice versa—if anything happens to Violet, Jaden will also die. Jaden teaches her many skills—how to fight, how to ride dragons. Violet falls in love with Jaden, and Jaden starts loving her too. But Jaden repeatedly tells her that they have no future and cannot live together. Violet is hurt but doesn’t lose hope.
One day, they are told their village has been attacked. But upon reaching, they discover it was a trap. If they win the war, they can return to college and graduate. If not, they would die there. Jaden and Violet combine their powers and fight. Although many friends die on the field, some survive.
The book ends here.
Now, let’s talk about how this book is. I will tell you guys beforehand—this book is next-level awesome. I can say this book has been the best read of the year for me. What I liked the most was the bonding between the dragons. Tyran and Sagal—I liked everything very much. It was fascinating that they were talking in their minds. I really liked that Violet, Jaden, Tyran, and Sagal could communicate telepathically.
Tyran was a dragon who could do anything for his rider. If Tyran didn’t like someone coming near Violet, he would say things like, “I will burn him alive, I will cook him alive if he does anything to her.” I liked this a lot. Actually, animals are like that—they can do anything for the people they love.
I also liked how Jaden helped Violet. He explained things to her, supported her, and helped her a lot. Although this book is enemies to lovers—Jaden was her enemy at first, he wanted to kill her—but slowly they fall in love. So yes, this is an enemies-to-lovers book. It is fantasy and very good. I would recommend this book 110%. You guys must read it at least once. Thank you to everyone who suggested this book. I really liked it, and you guys should also read it. If you haven’t yet, then please go and read it—it is very good.
So yes, this was today’s video. And yes, I can talk non-stop about this book. If I keep talking, the video will be one and a half hours long. So I will stop here. You guys should know that this book is very good. Everyone should read it.
Let me tell you one more thing: there is romance in it, but it is not hardcore. Whatever is there is mind-blowing—it’s very good. It’s a lovely book. I love this book. I liked it very much.
